MenACWY vaccine effectiveness The MenACWY vaccine is highly effective against serious infections caused by 4 different strains of meningococcal (A, C, W and Y). The vaccine contains only the sugar coating found on the surface of the 4 types of meningococcal bacteria.
What type of vaccine is Menactra?
Menactra®, Meningococcal (Groups A, C, Y and W-135) Polysaccharide Diphtheria Toxoid Conjugate Vaccine, is a sterile, intramuscularly administered vaccine that contains Neisseria meningitidis serogroup A, C, Y and W-135 capsular polysaccharide antigens individually conjugated to diphtheria toxoid protein.
Can you get MCV4 and MenB at the same time?
You can administer MenACWY and MenB vaccines at the same time. You can also administer them with other vaccines recommended for adolescents. Vaccine providers may administer meningococcal and other vaccines during the same visit, but at different injection sites if feasible.
How many injections is the meningococcal B vaccine?
Administer 3 doses to people 10 years of age or older who are at increased risk for meningococcal disease. This includes during outbreaks of serogroup B meningococcal disease. Administer the second dose 1 to 2 months after the first dose. Administer the third dose 6 months after the first dose.
What is Acwy?
Why get vaccinated? Meningococcal ACWY vaccine can help protect against meningococcal disease caused by serogroups A, C, W, and Y. A different meningococcal vaccine is available that can help protect against serogroup B.
Is menactra a MCV?
One type of MCV4, Menveo, is licensed for use in people ages 2 to 55. Another version, Menactra, is approved for those 9 months to 55 years old. MPSV4 is the only vaccine licensed for use in people over 55 as well as people 2 to 55. Both vaccines protect against four types of meningococcal disease.

What is the difference between MCV4 and MenB?
